Trailers
Rockstar has shown Grand Theft Auto 6 in three story trailers, Trailer 1 on Dec 4, 2023, Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025 and the launch trailer on Oct 15, 2026, besides a cover art video on Jun 18, 2026 and the 27-minute Extended Look on Aug 27, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto 6 was revealed in Trailer 1, a minute and a half long, which opens on Lucia Caminos in a prison interview: "Do you know why you're here?" "Bad luck, I guess." Rockstar had announced in November 2023 that the first trailer would come in December, for the company's 25th anniversary. A low-quality copy leaked a day early, on Dec 4, 2023, and Rockstar put the official trailer out the same day, revealing the title, the two leads, the state of Leonida with Vice City, a 2025 release window and the consoles. Trailer 2 followed seventeen months later, and the first gameplay came in An Extended Look.

Trailer 1
After the interview, Trailer 1 is a montage of Leonida's excesses, much of it styled as social media clips and camera footage, which journalists read as a parody of influencer culture, police body cameras and Florida Man stories. "Well look who's back," says a woman in one of the clips, and then Lucia sets out the couple's plan: "The only way we're gonna get through this is by sticking together. Being a team."
Within 12 hours it had 46 million views, the most any non-music YouTube video had drawn on its first day, and within two days it had 101 million, more than Grand Theft Auto V's 2011 reveal trailer had drawn in its lifetime. Its song, Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road", surged on streaming services.
Trailer 2
Trailer 2 arrived on May 6, 2025, four days after the game was delayed to May 2026. It is almost three minutes long, made of story scenes, and came with 70 new screenshots and a rebuilt website that described the characters and the places of Leonida for the first time. Its description sums up the plot: a couple caught in the middle of a criminal conspiracy after "an easy score goes wrong".
The trailer runs from Jason's landlord Brian and Lucia's release from prison to the couple's new life: a bank robbery ("Hands above your head! Now!"), a toast "to new beginnings", and nights out at the Rusty Anchor.
It also hints at the conspiracy: "Yo D, this fool a Fed?" "They got your name, address. They got everything." A group of police officers agree that "us cops, we gotta protect each other", which IGN reads as the start of a story thread about corrupt police.
Near the end comes a TV advert: "Come to Phil's Ammu-Nation today! We got more guns than the law allows."
The song throughout is the Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together", and the trailer was captured on PlayStation 5. The other songs used are Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight", Zenglen's "Child Support" and Tammy Wynette's "Talkin' to Myself Again".
Take-Two's chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, told CNBC that the second trailer drew 475 million views in 24 hours, a record. It beat the 365 million of Deadpool & Wolverine's trailer, and held the record until Spider-Man: Brand New Day's first trailer in March 2026. It also won Best Game Trailer at the 2025 Golden Joystick Awards.
Cover art
On Jun 18, 2026, a 33-second video revealed the cover art, in the multi-panel style of every Grand Theft Auto since the third, set to a synthwave track. The same day Rockstar announced that pre-orders would start on Jun 25, and put the art up to download in several sizes.
TGG, who had waited 410 days for news since Trailer 2, walked through the panels: a helicopter top left and a motorbike top right, as on the covers of Grand Theft Auto IV and V, Jason and Lucia, a woman with a drink by the water, an alligator, Boobie Ike, Raul Bautista, a boat under a flamingo, and a yellow supercar. The panels are explained on Editions and Pre-orders and Characters.
An Extended Look
On Aug 6, 2026, a 25-second teaser announced "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look", for Aug 27 on Netflix and six hours later on YouTube. It is not a trailer in the usual sense: 27 minutes of game footage, captured on PlayStation 5, with no commentary. It has its own page, An Extended Look.
Launch trailer
Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto 6 launch trailer on Oct 15, 2026, without warning, five weeks before the game's release. It is a minute and a half long and opens in the Keys, where Jason Duval polishes a boat at a marina and talks on the phone: he got in some trouble in the Army, he says, and did not leave on the best of terms. A prison call from Lucia Caminos follows, then a montage of heists, gunfights, chases, a motorbike leaping between rooftops and a beach strafed by a crop duster, closing on the release date, Nov 19, 2026, and "Pre-order now" (Rockstar Games; Kotaku).
Its song is "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Justice also composed the game's original score, and Rockstar says the song will be part of the official soundtrack (Soundtrack). The version on Rockstar's channel opens and ends on PlayStation 5 branding, as the platform's marketing partner.
The launch trailer became the game's first TV commercial on Oct 20, 2026, during the NBA season's opening night, where fans saw it in the Knicks against 76ers game on NBC Sports and in other games that night, Kotaku reported on Oct 21. The broadcast cut keeps the first of the trailer's three shower shots and drops the other two, holds a few shots longer (the plane, Jason and Lucia together) and adds a few frames, among them Lucia's jump from a truck onto a plane's landing gear. Rockstar has not commented on the ad (Kotaku).
