An Extended Look
Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look is 27 minutes of game footage that premiered on Netflix on Aug 27, 2026 and on YouTube six hours later: the first official gameplay, following Jason and Lucia from a drug pickup gone wrong to a bodyguard job at a Vice City party.
Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look is a 27-minute film of Grand Theft Auto 6, "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5", in Rockstar's words, and the first official look at the game being played. Rockstar announced it on Aug 6, 2026 and Netflix showed it first, on Aug 27 at 3 p.m. Eastern (noon Pacific); six hours later it went up on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the game's site. It has no narration and no captions: story scenes are strung together with long stretches of play, from a drug job for Boobie Ike to a bodyguard job at a party, and Netflix lists it as a film. Rockstar's upload is age-restricted, so it cannot play inside this viki; the moments on this page come from videos that show and discuss it.

Netflix first
When it was announced, almost 500 days had passed since Trailer 2. IGN noted plenty of eye-rolling at a game reveal "locked behind paid subscription services, even if for a mere 6 hours". Netflix, which had approached Rockstar with the idea, tied it to its own history: Grand Theft Auto V came out in 2013, the year Netflix began making original programs. Commentators read the deal as a sign that the game is treated as "a major entertainment tentpole".
Demand at the premiere caused problems for both Netflix and Twitch. The film went straight to number one on Netflix, with 31.1 million views in four days, and passed 17 million views on YouTube within six days. On Aug 31, Rockstar blurred scenes of dancing, drugs and sex in the version released in China.
What it shows
It opens with Jason and Lucia walking up to a housing block to meet a drug dealer, a classic Grand Theft Auto setup. On the way, the Red Dead Redemption 2 button to focus on and talk to people appears, even with a dog, and play slides smoothly into a cutscene in a drug den.
The job falls apart into the first shootout: cover, guns picked up from fallen enemies, and slow-motion kill shots that gameranx traces back to Max Payne 3. Jason calls for covering fire and Lucia gives it, which may or may not be scripted. See Combat and Focus.
A police officer who seems to know the couple appears, and they escape through a woman's apartment, dense with detail, and out of a window. The title card follows, then a montage set to the Bellamy Brothers' "Let Your Love Flow" with the new ways into a car.
Leaving home, Jason holds the door for Lucia, a small touch that recurs through the footage, and they drive a red car modeled on a late-1980s BMW M3 to Depeche Mode's "People Are People" through streets crowded with traffic, roadworks, people on the sidewalks and at bus stops.
A flashback shows the couple in disguise being questioned, then the story returns to a meal with Brian Heder and his wife Lori. Brian's contact needs one of the two for a job, and Lucia takes it, with a little awkwardness that TGG reads as a sign this is early in their relationship.
The job is the getaway for Raul Bautista: a police chase with Jason leaning out of the window at a police helicopter and pickup trucks, shooting windshields, engines and tires, to a score that gameranx calls 1980s-flavored, synthy and "surprisingly upbeat".
With four stars, they pull into a parking garage, burn the car and switch to a van, and the police cars ignore them from then on. The small icons under the stars show what the police know, and the car icon goes when the car does. See Wanted System.
After a montage of activities, the last mission casts the couple as bodyguards, which gameranx compares to Max Payne 3: protecting wealthy guests at a party that ends in a gunfight. Wikipedia's summary places it at the opening of a Spanish-language television network's first American headquarters.
The film closes on a montage to "Inner Light" by Elderbrook and Bob Moses: Cal, Lucia and Jason fishing, the Delights strip club, a car meet and more, under Cal's words about their glory days.
How it was received
Most of the reaction was to how it looks. IGN's Ryan McCaffrey wrote that it "might be the best-looking game I've ever seen", and PC Gamer's Morgan Park found the everyday details of eating, drinking and sleeping so good it was "almost overwhelming", while finding the writing formulaic. penguinz0 liked it, "not a perfect trailer" but one that left him "very hyped". Jason drew the most criticism and Lucia the most praise; see Fan Reaction.
Digital Foundry found it running at a steady 30 frames per second and at 1440p, with an uneven camera motion it blames on the engine; see Development. Press who had seen it at Rockstar North, with extra live play, published their previews the same day or the next, and much of what this viki says about the game's systems comes from them.
