Phone and Social Media

Jason and Lucia's phones carry Grand Theft Auto 6's parody of 2020s life: a working social media feed that points to real events in the world, Snapmatic, banking, ride-hailing, texting and fitness apps, alongside more satirical TV adverts than ever. Cash, bank money and loot are kept apart.

The phone is "a big part of this game", TGG reports after watching Rob Nelson play at Rockstar North. Grand Theft Auto 6 has a full social media system: you can scroll what the people of Leonida are posting and where, go to that place, and possibly find the event still unfolding. Other apps on the phone include a banking app that parodies Cash App, a ride-hailing app that calls a car to you, a messaging app for texting other characters and your partner, and a fitness app for your workouts. Snapmatic, the camera and social app from Grand Theft Auto V, returns too.

Social media

Rockstar's satire is "all present and correct", IGN found: people shout unhinged things in the street, there is a lawyer who works out of a dumpster, and there are more darkly funny television adverts than ever. Social media "returns in a big way": even if Jason and Lucia, a couple on the run, are not posting themselves, they can still lurk and doomscroll like everyone else.

At night among high-rise towers, two women in bold outfits dance on the roof and hood of a dark sedan with its headlights on, while the crowd around them cheers and films on smartphones under pink light.

The hard part, Nelson told IGN, is not finding things to satirize, since "humans are human", but making sure what makes the final cut still feels relevant long after release: memes, trends and politics age fast, so even small details such as slang get careful thought.

In An Extended Look, Lucia mentions Snapmatic in conversation. Rockstar's game world parodies influencer culture, and Snapmatic is its take on the apps of the 2020s.

The Extended Look has a random event built on it: a live streamer who looks a lot like a well-known one rides in Lucia's car along Shore Drive while bystanders react around them, unscripted as far as TGG can tell. His stream chat even carries a Los Santos joke: "Come to Los Santos."

The apps

What each app does, as far as Rockstar and the previews have shown before the Nov 19, 2026 launch:

App What it does Where it is detailed
Social media A feed of what Leonida's people post and where; some posts lead to events still going on Above
Snapmatic The camera and social app, back from Grand Theft Auto V Above
Car scanner Shows a parked car's value, its security (electronic locks, GPS trackers) and what registering it would cost Cars and Driving
Ride-hailing Calls a car to you and works as fast travel; you can talk, change the station or scroll the feed on the way Map
Banking A Cash App parody holding your safe bank balance; cash is paid in at an ATM, not from the phone Money
Messaging Texts with other characters and with your partner Jason and Lucia's Relationship
Fitness Tracks your gym work: strength raises health, the treadmill and similar raise stamina Activities and Stats
Music The radio on foot, through headphones or earbuds, and on-demand podcasts Music and Radio

The radio is the one app Rockstar itself has described in writing: Jason and Lucia can listen "in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones", and the game adds "a series of on-demand podcasts", its Oct 8, 2026 radio post says. The rest come from previews by TGG, IGN and Game Informer, who saw the game played at Rockstar North; Rockstar has not published a list of the phone's apps as of Oct 28, 2026.

Television

At home you can switch on the TV and watch shows and adverts in the Grand Theft Auto style; gameranx singles out a grotesque burger advert. A Trailer 2 advert brings back Phil Cassidy selling guns at Ammu-Nation. See Characters.

Money

The top right corner of the screen shows up to three kinds of money: the bank balance, which is safe; cash, which you can lose when you die and possibly when you are arrested; and the loot in your duffel bag, which has to be taken to a fence. Cash cannot be paid in from the phone, TGG notes: you have to find an ATM.

On screen

The minimap is three-dimensional and hides itself at times when you are on foot, but it can be set to stay on, or switched off in favor of a compass. Rockstar also showed TGG a menu option for copyright-free music, for people streaming or recording the game.
