Vice City

2:03 Vice City is the main city of Leonida in Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar's version of Miami, and Trailer 2's refrain: "Say Vice City, baby." The city is not new to the series. It was one of the three cities of the first Grand Theft Auto in 1997, and the 1980s setting of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Vice City Stories (2006). Grand Theft Auto 6 brings it into the present, and Rockstar's tagline for it is "Vice City, USA. The darkest side of the sunniest place in America."

6:50 Rockstar's site calls it "still the sun and fun capital of America", with "the glamour, hustle, and greed of America captured in a single city", from the art deco hotels of Ocean Beach and the bakeries of Little Cuba to the port, "the cruise ship capital of the world". IGN's tour of Trailer 2 adds the 919 club, which it reads as a riff on Miami's E11even, a fan in the turquoise jersey of the Vice City Manatees, the city's answer to the Miami Dolphins, a modernized Ocean View Hotel and the sign outside the airport.

4:30 With the cover art in June 2026, Rockstar's site gained a new view of the city from Vice Beach, across the water from the port, the bridges and the marina. TGG noticed a tower whose LED lights change color, which he thinks is a first for the series, and the cruise ship from earlier screenshots.

3:48 IGN's preview began in a downtown district, and the crowds hit "like a slap in the face": traffic, people "of all shapes and sizes" who curse at you, conversations you overhear in passing, and stores, bodegas and pawn shops, all of them there to be robbed, drawn in such detail that "your eyes overload for a few seconds".

Research

Rockstar based a research team in Miami. Rob Nelson told Dazed that "Florida and Miami have perhaps one of the most diverse and interesting populations in the world", and the team met "anyone notorious or influential who'll take our calls", from police to club promoters, former criminals and gun dealers. More than 50 street artists designed murals for the game, including in Stockyard, the city's version of the Wynwood arts district, and the Miami stylist Jillian Carr helped build the city's fashion from 2023: "Vice City is built around vanity."

35:41 The Extended Look's last mission starts inside an airport building, which TGG takes as a sign that airports have interiors this time, then drives through Vice City at night to a party at the headquarters of Mega Mundo, a Spanish-language television network. On the way the city's people take selfies and dance.

36:20 The same stretch of footage has a night street race with nitrous, and the 919 club packed with people. According to Dazed, the characters were written so that the couple would see every level of Vice City's parties, from house parties and local bars to high-end clubs, drawing on Miami's hip-hop scene.
